Our Services
Is your pet’s Rabies vaccination out of date, or you can’t find the certificate?
No worries:
Yes, we administer Rabies vaccinations
(only in association with Travel certificates, however)
Domestic Pet Travel Certificates:
(United States [except Hawaii, see below], Canada, Mexico)
Anchorage Pet Travel Certificates provides licensed veterinarian examinations of dogs & cats for domestic travel — within Alaska, to & from the Lower 48 US states (excepting Hawaii, see below), to/through Canada, and to Mexico
Our service is designed for WELL PETS only. If your pet is unwell and needs certification to travel, we are unable to provide certification for your pet and strongly urge you to consult your regular veterinarian to discuss your pet’s travel plan.
Canada/Mexico DOG travel after 01 August 2024:
(cats are exempt from the new US reentry requirements)
(UPDATED 24 August 2024)
Neither Canada nor Mexico requires a Health certificate for entry into their country.
At minimum, Dogs (re)Entering the US will be required to:
Be at least 6 months old
Have a readable microchip (see note below)
Have owner-completed online CDC Dog Import Form (click link below)
Have current Rabies vaccination certificate (per Canada requirements)
Have Domestic health certificate, depending on destination state (see our Home Page)
As of 14 Aug 2024, we are hearing back that SOME border patrol agents are asking for a Domestic Health Certificate, as well. We are amending our recommendations to also have a domestic certificate within 30 days of travel.
——————————
**Please note: Many “universal scanners” do not detect 9-digit microchips. If your dog has a 9-digit chip, we recommend either getting a new 15-digit chip or purchasing your own scanner online.
Domestic Pet Travel to Hawaii:
Because Hawaii has strict legal requirements regarding pet importation (especially in regards to Rabies vaccination and required blood titer tests), advance arrangements must be made prior to booking an appointment for a health certificate to Hawaii. If you have never before traveled with your pet to Hawaii, it is in your best interest to click the Hawaii Pet Quarantine link listed on our FAQ page.
At minimum, for Hawaii travel, your pet must have a:
microchip
Rabies-titer (FAVN) blood test (takes a minimum of 4 weeks processing time before import)
history of two Rabies vaccinations
Please note: Our clinic does NO blood-testing — you will need to coordinate with a full-service veterinary clinic for that service. Plan ahead!
Otherwise, please email us at AnchoragePetTravel@gmail.com so that we can best determine if your pet is able to be seen at one of our regular weekly clinics or if they need a more specialized appointment.
Please do not book Hawaii pet travel via our online scheduling link.
International Travel:
(See Canada/Mexico section for those destinations)
International pet travel can be very complex, and you MUST consult the USDA website regarding your destination country’s pet-import requirements:
https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/pet-travel/take-pet-to-foreign-country/export-pets
Each country has its own requirements, and these can change on short notice. Some countries, such as Australia & New Zealand, have a barrage of precisely timed blood tests and parasite-prevention treatments, and may still require quarantine upon arrival.
Additionally, all international travel certificates must also be signed by the USDA federal veterinarian online via the VEHCS system (which sometimes also involves FedEx shipping return to you of the endorsed ink-signed certificate prior to your departure).
[Please note: Our clinic does not offer a “concierge” service for coordinating all your pet/s’ international travel requirements, such as import permits as required by some destination countries. Be informed! Check the USDA website! ]
In summary, Anchorage Pet Travel Certificates is able to assist with the preparation of international travel certificates, but advanced arrangements are needed and cannot be booked via our online scheduling portal. Please contact us at AnchoragePetTravel@gmail.com for more information.
Now offering VEHCS online Export Health Certificate System!
(Adequate advance notice for processing time still required.)
Plan Ahead!
USDA requires 72 hours processing-time, and they do not work weekends or holidays.
USDA Office does not work weekends or federal holidays, and if return-shipping of endorsed documents is required, this can have implications for your pet/s’ international travel.
Late-notice (within 2 weeks of departure) incurs an additional $100 surcharge, as it’s difficult to gather all necessary data and coordinate appointments in such a short time frame.
Save money! Plan ahead!
