“So — Wait — Do I need a Health Certificate or not??”

Short answer: STRONGLY RECOMMENDED (see 14 Aug 2024 note above: Travelers are being asked for a health certificate by some border control officers).

  • If you are traveling by airline and your pet is flying in cargo, then YES you need a Health Certificate, within 10 days of departure.

  • If you are traveling by airline and your pet is traveling in cabin, then probably not but check with your airline!

  • If you are traveling by ferry, then YES you need a Health Certificate (good for 30 days).

  • If you are driving to any destination state other than California/Georgia/Maine, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia, or Washington, then YES you need a Health Certificate (good for 30 days) — Also, please see 14 Aug 2024 update: Some travelers are being asked to provide a domestic certificate at US-Canada Borders! (i.e., what’s happening “in real life”)

  • If you are transporting a pet for a friend or family member, Canada may require a Health Certificate for entry/transit.

AS OF 22 JULY 2024 :
